Driver dies after car rear-ends dump truck in New Smyrna Beach

VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL — A crash involving a dump truck Sunday night in west New Smyrna Beach has claimed the life of a 64-year-old driver, according to WESH 2.

Florida Highway Patrol officials responded to the scene near Florida State Highway 44 and North Cucumber Lane shortly before midnight.

Preliminary details indicate that the victim was operating a Toyota Corolla when he failed to slow down as the car approached the back of a dump truck. Authorities said the car struck the rear of the truck shortly after.

First responders pronounced the driver of the Corolla deceased at the scene.
