Car driver killed, truck driver hurt in fiery head-on crash in Lake Alfred

LAKE ALFRED, FL – A BMW sedan driver lost their life and a trash truck driver was injured in a fiery head-on crash that happened on Old Polk City Road Friday.

Fox13 News reported that the events unfolded around 5:45 a.m. Preliminary details show that the BMW driver was going west and tried to pass several vehicles in front of them by moving over into the eastbound lane. The trash truck driver was also going east. In order to avoid a collision, the BMV and truck swerved into the southbound shoulder and crashed head-on into each other.

Both vehicles crashed into some trees, causing the sedan and the truck’s engine compartment to catch on fire.

The car driver was trapped inside their silver BMW and died from their injuries at the scene. The truck driver, who wore a seatbelt, was left with minor injuries and taken to a hospital for treatment.

The impact of the collision completely totaled the BMW. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is working to determine what the car driver looked like.
