2 sent to trauma centers after semi vs pickup truck crash in Mulberry

POLK COUNTY, FL — Two people were injured Tuesday, February 13, due to a crash involving a semi-truck on Highway 60 in Mulberry, reports Polk News-Sun.

Polk County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene at around 9:44 p.m. and arrived to find two people trapped in the wreckage.

Two patients were extricated and then rushed to area trauma trauma centers as trauma alerts. Authorities said one of the two victims were flown to a facility by Aeromed.

Both east and westbound lanes of Highway 60 were shut down in the area as crews attended to a subsequent molten sulfur leak originating from the semi. Motorists were asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes.

By 3:54 a.m., all lanes were reopened to the public.

An investigation into the cause of the accident remains in progress.
