2 killed as pickup slams into log truck on US-301 in Bradford County

BRADFORD COUNTY, FL — Two people traveling in a pickup truck died Thursday morning after the vehicle struck a log truck on U.S. Highway 301 in Bradford County, according to News4Jax.

While News4Jax did not provide the exact location of the crash, a report from the Florida Highway Patrol indicates a 47-year-old Middleburg man was driving a log truck when he tried to turn left onto northbound US-301. At one point, a southbound pickup truck collided with the truck’s trailer and became wedged underneath.

First responders pronounced both the driver and passenger of the pickup truck deceased at the scene. Their identities have not been made public at this time.

The FHP said the fatal accident caused a secondary, more minor crash between a sedan and a dump truck. Both vehicles were heading southbound on the highway when they swerved to avoid the primary crash and ultimately collided on the shoulder of the same side.

No injuries to the driver of the log truck or any of the secondary drivers were reported.

Authorities continue to investigate.
