PALM CITY, FL – A van driver was traveling the wrong way on Florida’s Turnpike, leading them to collide head-on with a semi-truck, injuring themself and the other driver Wednesday.
This collision happened on the northbound lanes near Mile Marker 133, according to CBS 12 and Martin County Fire Rescue. First responders, including Florida Highway Patrol, arrived at the scene around 10 a.m.

One of the motorists sustained minor wounds, while the other occupant was airlifted via a LifeStar helicopter to Lawnwood Medical Center for treatment of critical, life-threatening wounds.
The white van was completely mangled, and the front of the semi-truck was significantly damaged.
Officials have shut down the northbound lanes and have not provided a time estimate as to when the area will reopen.
