BROWARD COUNTY, FL — A two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck Thursday afternoon in Pompano Beach has claimed the lives of two men, according to CBS12.
The fatal accident unfolded at 5:00 p.m. on westbound West Copans Road at Blount Road, where a Nissan Sentra driven by a 51-year-old Fort Pierce man was hit by a Mack truck.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) said the Nissan had begun turning left at the intersection and entered the direct path of the truck, which was heading eastbound on West Copans Road.
As a result of the impact, the Nissan was pushed across the sidewalk and then onto a grassy area before it arrived at a stop in the intersection’s southeast corner.
A 21-year-old passenger inside the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene not long after Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel arrived.
The driver of the Nissan was transported to Broward Health North but also later died as a result of his injuries.
Officials did not say whether the driver of the truck, 49, was hurt in the event, but they remained on the scene and was questioned by investigators.
Authorities continue to handle the case.
