19 injured in trash truck, school bus collision in Hialeah

HIALEAH, FL – Nineteen people sustained injuries when a school bus and a trash truck collided and then rammed into a residential fence around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Local10 said this crash happened at the East 1st Avenue and East 60th Street intersection. While Florida Highway Patrol and Hialeah police have not confirmed the details behind this crash and who was at fault, they did say the impact of this two-vehicle wreck caused two people from the truck to be thrown from their vehicle while the third truck occupant was left entrapped or pinned before they were extricated by Hialeah Fire crews.

Officials said the truck occupants were flown via helicopter to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

FHP confirmed that the 19 people, the bus driver, and the 15 school children all sustained minor wounds. Among all the kids, three were sent to a hospital as a precaution.

The bus is affiliated with F. Couceiro School Bus Inc., an organization run by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
