1 killed, 1 hurt in 3-vehicle collision with box truck in Ormond Beach

ORMOND BEACH, FL – An SUV passenger was killed and an SUV driver was injured in a three-vehicle collision involving a box truck on I-95 North Monday.

Observer Local News said the events unraveled before 1:45 p.m. when a driver of a box truck, who was initially on the interstate shoulder, tried to merge back onto the interstate and came into the path of an oncoming SUV.

The SUV driver swerved toward the outside shoulder and rear-ended the box truck. The debris from this initial collision flew onto the road and crashed into a second SUV. The driver of the second SUV, an 86-year-old woman from Palm Coast, tried to swerve to avoid a crash. However, that proved to be inevitable. Despite the crash, she and the box truck driver, a 34-year-old man also from Palm Coast, were uninjured.

The SUV passenger from the first SUV was the person to suffer fatal injuries. She was identified as a 23-year-old woman from Ramseur, North Carolina. Her passenger was identified as a 24-year-old man from Asheboro, North Carolina. The Asheboro man was left with minor injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the details behind the collision.
