1 hospitalized, 1 killed after car rear-ends semi in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, FL – A 28-year-old woman driving a car rear-ended a semi-truck, which led to her being sent to a hospital and to her passenger’s death Friday.

This collision happened before 4 a.m. on the Alico Road exit ramp along I-75 South, WINK News reported.

Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of the gold Kia sedan and the semi-driver were both traveling on the same off-ramp. As the drivers continued, the car driver struck the back of the semi.

Troopers declared the car passenger, a 21-year-old woman from Lehigh Acres, deceased at the scene.

First responders said the driver, also from Lehigh Acres, was hospitalized for minor wounds. It is unclear if the semi-truck driver was injured.

Troopers shut down the exit ramp for several hours before reopening after 8 a.m. No other details were released at this time.
