FERNANDIA BEACH, FL – One person died and two others were hurt after a wrong-way crash involving a trash truck in Fernandia Beach Thursday.
According to Action News Jax, the events unraveled after 12:30 p.m. when the trash truck driver had drifted from northbound Amelia Island Parkway and into the southbound lanes and crashed head-on into a pickup truck, driven by an 84-year-old man.
The impact of the collision caused the large truck to flip over and was then struck by a sedan, driven by a 100-year-old woman.
The trash truck driver, a 55-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The elderly woman was left in serious condition, and the elderly man in critical condition.
The Nassau County deputies shut down Amelia Island Parkway between South 8th Street and Via Del Mar Road.
No citations or charges were announced at this time.
