Thomasville PD arrests semi driver after deadly multi-vehicle wreck

THOMASVILLE, AL – Thomasville police arrested and booked a semi-truck driver into the Clarke County Jail after causing a deadly multi-vehicle wreck Tuesday.

Police charged the driver with “two counts of vehicular manslaughter.” FOX10TV said the semi-truck driver, identified as 45-year-old Andrii Dmyterko, had rear-ended four vehicles stopped at a red light at the intersection of Highway 43 and South Industrial Drive Park. The serious collision occurred just before noon and caused at least one vehicle to catch fire.

First responders pronounced two of the drivers dead at the accident scene and transported four people to Grove Hill Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The two deceased drivers have since been identified as 53-year-old Woodie Earl Beck III and 37-year-old Marie Springer McDonald.

It’s unclear if Dmyterko and his passenger, 31-year-old Denys Kucher, were injured. Thomasville police learned that both men had U.S. work visas and were driving in a truck owned by the U.S. Transportation Company. The trucking company has not expressed any comments pertaining to Tuesday’s fatal truck collision or Dmyterko’s arrest.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, and the DA’s office responded to the accident scene and helped with the investigation.

Additional information, which includes any reports of new charges or insights regarding the deadly truck accident, will be added once they are publically available.
