SUMTER COUNTY, AL — A 19-year-old driver was fatally injured Tuesday due to a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer near Livingston, according to Tuscaloosa Thread.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division troopers said the accident happened on a stretch of Interstate 59 about seven miles north of the city.
Preliminary details show the teen, a Mississippi resident, was driving a 2021 Honda Civic when it collided head-on with a 2022 Freightliner tractor-trailer. Authorities said the victim, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was left critically injured after being thrown from the car.
First responders had the teen flown to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, where the patient succumbed to their injuries the following day.
An investigation remains ongoing.
