ATMORE, AL – A 63-year-old man operating a 2024 Freightliner trash truck lost his life when his vehicle drifted off Atmosphere Road and then overturned Thursday.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency told North Escambia that the driver, David Odell, an EightMile resident, was traveling in the left lane (six miles north of Atmore near Poarch Road) when the collision occurred. Odell did not wear a safety device at the time of the wreck. While not confirmed, by not wearing a seatbelt could have had an impact on Odell’s death, who passed away at the scene.
State Highway Patrol started an investigation and has not released additional details at this time.
