Little Rock man killed in semi-truck crash on I-459 in Vestavia Hills

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL – An Arkansas man was killed when his 18-wheeler was hit by a stray tire in Vestavia Hills on Monday afternoon.

According to WTVM, a 2023 Freightliner was traveling on I-459 North near the Liberty Parkway at about 3:40 p.m. when the tire, which detached from a 2002 Ford Explorer, crashed through the truck’s windshield.

The semi crashed into the woods off the side of the roadway and began to catch fire.

The truck’s driver, Jeffrey Earl Cane, 42, of Little Rock, Arkansas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is unclear at this time whether the Ford’s driver, a 21-year-old Midfield man, will be cited in connection to the deadly crash.
