CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL — At least two people died Monday morning following a series of crashes on Interstate 85 near Lanett, reports WTVM.
The accident happened on the southbound lanes of I-85 near exit 77 to Fob James Drive/South Phillips Road, at around 6:26 a.m.
According to officials, first responders arrived on the scene to find multiple crashes that were part of a chain reaction that began near mile markers 74 and 75.
In one wreck, two passenger vehicles collided, claiming the life of Byungock Shim, a 40-year-old Auburn resident.
Jonathon Bennett Kelly, 34, of Wadesboro, North Carolina, died at the scene following a crash involving two semi-tractor trailers near exit 77.
One victim who was involved in the initial crash was flown to an area hospital while East Alabama Fire and EMS had another person from the same incident taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
