18-wheeler crash causes backup on I-59 near Brighton

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — Officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) responded to the scene of a big rig crash Friday afternoon on Interstate 59 near Brighton, according to ABC 3340.

The accident was reported on the southbound lanes near mile marker 115, prompting a closure of the roadway at about 2:00 p.m.

At this time, the agency has not issued a statement about the specifics of the wreck, but a photo captured at the scene shows significant damage to the truck, which appeared to be mangled and turned on its side in the grassy median.

The ALEA also did not immediately announce an estimated clearance time.
