HOWELL TOWNSHIP, MI – More information has been released regarding the multi-vehicle collision on I-96 that left multiple people severely injured Wednesday afternoon, Local 4 reports.
According to police, the accident occurred on westbound I-96, just west of Pinckney Road in Howell Township around 1:48 pm. A 58-year-old Wisconsin semi driver failed to stop for traffic, rear-ended a Chevrolet Equinox, then collided with a Ford Explorer.
The truck driver then continued westbound and rear-ended another semi, sending it into another Ford Explorer and a GMC Acadia.
The driver of the first Ford Explorer was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The Wisconsin semi-truck driver was airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor with serious injuries. Two other people were hospitalized with minor injuries.
The accident is still under investigation.
