NEOGA, IL — A 31-year-old male semi-truck driver lost his life after he was struck by a box truck on I-57 near milepost 172 Saturday, according to WAND TV.
Illinois State Police said the crash took place around 3:30 p.m. Preliminary details show that the semi-truck driver stopped on the right shoulder and filled up the truck with gas. Moments later, an oncoming box truck crashed into him, and the semi-truck driver died.
Police confirmed that the box truck driver was charged with failure to reduce speed and improper lane usage.
Authorities blocked off southbound I-57 from Neoga to Effingham for several hours for the clean-up process and reopened the area just before 10 p.m.
Police started an investigation.
