2 hospitalized after fiery semi-truck crash in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, NC – Two people were taken to a hospital after a fiery semi-truck crash that happened on I-40 on Tuesday, July 1, QC News reports.

The collision occurred before 2:45 p.m. on I-40 near mile marker 100. The events unraveled when one driver stopped on the shoulder to allow another vehicle to merge from the on-ramp. A semi-truck from behind proceeded to rear-end the stopped vehicle.

The impact of the crash caused the truck to catch on fire, and burned all the industrial wire or copper tubing on board. EMS crews rushed to the scene and took two people to the emergency room for treatment of minor injuries. Firefighters stayed behind to extinguish the flames from the truck.

Transportation crews and other officials also remained at the accident scene and told westbound drivers to take Exit 100 (Jamestown Road) and take Causby Road before getting back onto I-40 West.

The westbound lanes were closed for several hours and reopened around 10:30 p.m.

Authorities said charges are pending, but have not commented on the specifics of those charges.
