Delaware woman, dog killed in fiery semi-truck crash in Portland

PORTLAND, TN – A 59-year-old woman from Delaware and her pit bull dog lost their lives to a fiery semi-truck crash that happened on I-65 last Wednesday, June 26.

According to The Portland Sun, the events unfolded before 4:30 a.m. when the Delaware woman, later identified as Vivian Kanash, had gone off her southbound lane and then rear-ended a parked 2015 Kenworth with her 2021 Volo semi-truck.

Tennessee Highway Patrol said the Kenworth had a flat tire, which is why it was parked on the shoulder. Troopers said that after the two tractor-trailers made contact, Kanash’s truck was pushed forward and then caught on fire. Items such as general household goods and Orajel and toothpaste fell from the trucks.

Kanash and her dog succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the driver of the disabled truck, a 60-year-old man from Ohio, was unharmed.

Robertson County EMS and EMA, White House City Fire Department, and the Cross Plains Fire Department also responded to the scene of the crash.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the details behind the serious collision.

No criminal charges were filed at this time.
