Big rig fire shuts down I-10 in New Orleans for several hours

NEW ORLEANS, LA – Louisiana Department of Transportation crews had to issue several hour-long closures on Wednesday due to a big rig fire on I-10 East.

The truck accident happened overnight in the area of Bonnet Carré Spillway at milepost 218, according to WWLTV. Transportation workers shut down the right lane for the clean-up process. By 7:16 a.m., officials reopened the lane but still had not been able to remove the semi-truck.

By 9:30 a.m., authorities were able to open up the left lane, and finally, they were able to remove the truck and reopen all lanes at 11:30 a.m.

Law enforcement has not yet disclosed what caused the fire or said if anyone was injured.

Transportation personnel were also called to a separate multi-vehicle crash that happened close to the truck accident.
