OSCELOA COUNTY, FL – Six people lost their lives, and one person sustained minor injuries in a fiery collision that involved a tractor-trailer Sunday.
Florida Highway Patrol told WFTV that the events unfolded when the driver of a Hyundai Tucson had lost control of their vehicle while trying to pass several vehicles on westbound SR 60 and while reentering eastbound State Road 60. Moments later, the car crashed into a semi-truck, which caused both vehicles to catch on fire.
Fire crews and troopers declared the six-car occupants, including the driver, dead at the scene. Officials confirmed that all occupants were trapped inside their vehicle prior to their deaths.
EMS crews hurried the truck driver to Indian River Hospital for their treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers are continuing to investigate the details behind the deadly collision.
Updates, including the victim’s genders, ages, and places of residence, will be added once our team has the latest developments.
