Man, 65, killed in pin-in trash truck collision in Old Fort 

OLD FORT, NC – A 65-year-old man was killed in a trash truck collision that happened on the 500th block of Bat Cave Road Tuesday, WIOS reports. 

Preliminary details reveal that the 65-year-old man had lost control of his brakes while driving on I-40 East. As a result of not being able to use his brakes, he traveled at a high speed of 75 to 80mph before crashing into a Taco Bell construction site. 

The driver was pinned inside and had to be extricated by fire crews. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The truck was carrying railroad ballast at the time of the crash. The driver’s identity has not been disclosed at this time.
