NASH COUNTY, NC – A 3-year-old child and three adults were injured due to a two-truck crash Sunday morning, May 18, on Interstate 95 near Rocky Mount, reports WRAL News.
The accident happened on the southbound side of I-95 at mile marker 145, prompting a six-hour closure that began at about 2:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a Volvo truck and a Mack truck were both heading southbound. At one point, the Volvo’s truck neglected to reduce speed in time and hit the back of the Mack truck. The impact caused the Volvo truck to jackknife, and for its cab to detach from the trailer. Both trucks ultimately came to a stop blocking all lanes of I-95.
The Volvo truck driver, 27, was transported to UNC Nash Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Officials say he faces charges of “failure to reduce speed, driving with a revoked license, and no seatbelt.
While the driver of the Mack truck and his wife and child were not seriously hurt, all three were also taken to UNC to be evaluated.
