1 killed, 3 hurt after multi-vehicle wreck with semi in Siloam Springs

SILOAM SPRINGS, AR – One person died, and three others were injured following a multi-vehicle collision with a Freightliner on U.S. 412 Wednesday.

Siloam Springs police told Arkansas Democrat Gazette that the events unfolded when an 84-year-old woman driving a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse had failed to yield while coming onto the highway and collided with a Freightliner.

The Freightliner driver, 26-year-old Jose Prieto of Amarillo, Texas, had tried to avoid hitting the oncoming Traverse by swerving. However, that attempt did not work, and Preito ended up crashing head-on into another vehicle, a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox.

The 84-year-old woman died from her injuries after 11:30 a.m. She was identified as Peggy Nelson from Westville, Oklahoma.

The Traverse passenger, 64-year-old Evelyn Nelson from Westville, the Equinox driver, 79-year-old Janie Brown of Siloam Springs, and Preito were all injured.
