BUCHANAN, VA – Two people lost their lives, and one person was hospitalized after a rear-end crash between a Mercedes Benz car and a semi-truck Thursday.
WDJB7 said the driver of the Mercedes was driving on I-81 at mile marker 166 when they drifted off their lane and crashed into a disabled semi-truck on the shoulder.
Police and EMS rushed to the scene. Officers declared a 15-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man, Mercedes passengers, dead at the scene, while EMS crews took the Mercedes driver to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have identified the 22-year-old man as Sameer Baig Mirza. Mirza and the teenager were from Springfield, Virginia.
Officers said the Mercedes driver will face criminal charges.
