Fire crews extinguish flames from overturned trash truck in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, VA – Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews extinguished the flames from an overturned trash truck on Bridge Road Friday, 13NewsNow reports.

First responders said the truck operator was driving on I-664 North when one of their tires came undone. This caused the driver to then lose control of their truck and plow into a jersey wall. The truck flipped over and then fell off the I-664 overpass and landed on Bridge Road.

The truck burst into flames, but it appeared the driver was able to escape from the vehicle and from any serious injuries.

Fire crews confirmed the driver was not carrying any loads at the time. Crews and Virginia State Police shut down all lanes on Bridge Road for the scene clearance process.

The interstate remained open to accommodate the flow of traffic. Officials are continuing to investigate Friday’s serious truck rollover crash.
