FAISON, NC – A fiery multi-vehicle collision involving several trucks on I-40 left one person in serious condition and three people with minor injuries Tuesday.
ABC 11 said the events unfolded on the eastbound lanes when a tractor-trailer carrying fuel slammed into a car, causing it to overturn. A short time later, two other semi-trucks and then a pickup truck collided with the flipped-over big rig. The collision between the overturned truck and the pickup truck is what led to the fire.
A driver of a box truck had swerved to the left to avoid striking the flipped-over truck and crashed into several median cables.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol, fire crews, and North Carolina Emergency Management crews were all summoned to the scene. Management teams came to the scene to offload the fuel.
No citations or charges against any of the drivers were filed.
