SAN BENITO, TX – A collision between a blue Chevrolet Aveo and a red Kenworth semi-truck claimed one man’s life and ended in another man’s arrest Saturday.
The driver of the truck had failed to reduce his speed and plowed into the left-turning Chevrolet at the intersection of FM 1421 and Road 233, according to MY RGV.
EMS crews rushed the Chevrolet driver to a hospital. There, he succumbed to his injuries. He has since been identified as 70-year-old Lorenzo Guajardo from San Benito.
Texas Department of Transportation later confirmed that the truck driver was texting and driving while operating the truck. He was “arrested and charged with criminal negligent homicide.” He has since been identified as 39-year-old Luis Fernando Gonzalez Altamirano from Mexico. He was booked into the Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center. There, he awaits an arraignment.
