DORTCHES, NC – A driver of an 18-wheeler sustained minor injuries after attempting to merge into a left lane on I-95 and sideswiping a pickup truck Thursday.
Once the vehicles collided, the pickup truck struck a guardrail. The big rig driver kept driving until the truck flipped over, according to CBS 17. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and State Department of Transportation crews arrived at the northbound lanes around 6:30 p.m.
After arriving, officials closed one lane for the scene clearance process and left the right lane open to accommodate the flow of traffic.
The pickup truck driver was spared from injuries, and no criminal charges have been filed against the 18-wheeler operator.
Troopers are continuing to pinpoint the events that led to the crash.
