3 killed in chain-reaction crash with big rig in Milam Co.

MILAM COUNTY, TX – A driver of a 2025 Freightliner truck caused a chain-reaction crash amid a construction zone, which claimed the lives of three people Tuesday.

Once the truck hit a 2015 Kia SUV, it appeared that the SUV was pushed forward and then struck a Ford sedan, according to KXXV. After all three vehicles made contact, the SUV then crashed into a ditch and overturned.

The Ford sedan driver and his two passengers suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Texas Department of Public Safety identified the male motorist as 43-year-old Clint McCaffety, and the woman with him was 39-year-old Meghan Nicole McCaffety. The third passenger, a 16-year-old teenage boy, was not publicly identified. All were Temple residents.

EMS crews transported the SUV driver, a 45-year-old Fort Bend woman, to Scott & White Medical Center. Her current physical condition remains undisclosed.

The truck driver was a 26-year-old Bellmead man. It’s unclear if he was injured or could face criminal charges.

Officials have not disclosed the exact location of the wreck.
