Hit-and-run suspect fatally strikes semi driver in North Charleston 

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – A semi-truck driver was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver on the Don Holt Bridge Monday, Count on 2 said.

North Charleston police said that just before 7:45 a.m., the truck driver had started to experience mechanical issues. Naturally, he wanted to inspect the truck engine. As he exited his vehicle, he had allegedly fallen off and was hit by an unknown vehicle.

The driver of the unknown vehicle did not render aid and immediately fled the scene.

Police said the truck operator died at the scene. Due to the severity of the wreck, police and crews shut down the area and asked drivers to use Virginia Avenue as an alternative route. All lanes have reopened since.

Police are actively working to determine what the hit-and-run suspect and their vehicle looked like. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed.
