Officials close I-285 in Atlanta after truck driver hits barrier

ATLANTA, GA – A truck driver crashed into an I-285 concrete barrier, and metal from the truck fell, prompting first responders to shut down the area Friday.

The truck’s strap loosened, causing the truck’s goods to tumble down, just before the vehicle made contact with the barrier, Atlanta News First said. The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. on the westbound lanes and also resulted in downed power lines.

Utility crews worked on the repairs while transportation crews closed several lanes to clean up the debris. By 7:40 a.m., workers reopened some lanes to accommodate the flow of traffic.

A Tesla driver, who was traveling behind the truck, was not struck by the loaded materials and escaped injuries.

At this time, the truck motorist’s physical condition remains unclear.
