Officials respond to Knoxville propane rollover truck collision

KNOXVILLE, TN – Rural Metro Fire, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, and Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a propane rollover truck crash at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Fire crews told WATE News Channel 6 that the driver of the truck was able to escape the truck before it completely caught on fire and that firefighters were able to extinguish the flames just before 11 a.m.

The driver was unharmed. Due to the nature of the wreck and the leakage of gas, deputies and troopers had to evacuate Corryton Elementary staff, students, and fellow residents from their homes on Foster Road. The residents were placed in temporary shelters until the valve that leaked the gas was shut off and until the gas was transported to another truck.

Crews did have to shut down the area for the scene clearance process. At this time, they have not announced any reopening of lanes and advise commuters to seek alternative routes.

Highway Patrol has not been able to confirm the events that led to the collision. They are actively pursuing an investigation.
