Truck collisions in Blacksburg sends drivers to hospital

BLACKSBURG, SC – A semi-truck driver and a box truck motorist were hospitalized after two separate truck collisions on I-85 South Friday.

The first crash happened after 9:30 p.m. along Blacksburg Highway, according to WYFF 4. The Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department said this collision happened when one semi-driver rear-ended another big rig.

In the second collision, the box truck driver hit a car. Two other vehicles were involved, but authorities did not specify how.

Fire crews did confirm, however, that the wrecks left two individuals – an adult from the first accident and a child from the second crash – trapped inside their vehicles.

The driver of the semi-truck who caused the first collision and the box truck driver were hospitalized for unspecified wounds. The big rig driver is recovering at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, and the box truck motorist at Cherokee Medical Center.

South Carolina Department of Transportation crews and Cherokee County Emergency Management personnel were both summoned to the scenes. Cherokee Co. Emergency Management workers had to clean up a fuel spill left by both of the collisions.

Crews had to close the majority of the lanes for the clean-up procedure and reopened three lanes.

South Carolina Highway Patrol has not shared additional details.
