Driver unharmed as semi catches fire in Riverview

RIVERVIEW, FL – A semi-truck driver was spared from injuries when their vehicle, hauling eggs, caught on fire and overturned on I-75 South Saturday.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) told ABC Action News that the truck burst into flames (before 1 p.m. near the Big Bend Road exit 246) after its driver pulled over onto the shoulder due to a flat tire.

While fire crews cast out the fire within 30 minutes of the incident, crews shut down all the lanes for several hours for the standard scene clearance clean-up procedure. Officials finally reopened the area by 7 p.m. At this time, firefighters did not specify how the fire came about.
