NEAR REFUGIO, TX – A 31-year-old man driving a 2018 Nissan box truck did not reduce his speed, which led him to rear-end a semi trailer on U.S. 77 Tuesday.
This collision happened around 2:30 a.m. in an outside southbound lane, KIIITV reports.
Just prior the driver of the semi was involved in a crash with a second big rig and six other vehicles. In this initial collision, as revealed in another source, South Texas News, the tractor-trailer had drifted off the road and got stuck on some railroad tracks. Despite the nature of that wreck, the big rig driver, identified as 38-year-old Alberto Mata from La Villa, was unharmed. The other motorists were unharmed, while the 31-year-old man, identified as Michael Ngo, a Houston resident, perished at the collision site.
Due to the severity of this crash, the Texas Department of Public Safety and crews were left with no choice but to close the area for several hours and reopen all lanes by 7 a.m.
