SUV hits disabled semi in Bay Minette, claiming life of man

BAY MINETTE, AL – A 46-year-old man succumbed to fatal wounds when he crashed his 2001 Ford Explorer into a disabled Mack semi-truck on U.S. 31 Thursday.

This collision took place after 5 a.m. near mile marker number 11 north of Stapleton, according to Fox10TV

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) confirmed the big rig was in one of the lanes when the wreck happened and did not specify if the truck became disabled because of mechanical issues or from being involved in a previous collision.

ALEA has since identified the 46-year-old man as Robert M. Thompson, a Bay Minette local. Authorities said Thompson died at the scene and have not specified any contributing factors behind this wreck.
