WASHINGTON COUNTY, VA – A 52-year-old man operating a box truck passed away, and a pickup truck driver was hospitalized after their vehicles collided on I-81 Wednesday.
Virginia State Police, who are still investigating the circumstances behind this wreck, suspect the collision happened when the box truck driver, going north on I-81, struck the pickup truck driver traveling in the opposite lanes, according to WIJHL. The impact caused both trucks to roll over, and police declared the 52-year-old man, identified as Saiid Gamure from Clarksville, Georgia, dead at the scene.
The pickup truck driver, who was not identified, is recovering from serious wounds.
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews had also shut down the southbound lanes for some time for the standard scene clearance and investigation.
