NEAR STRASBURG, VA – A driver of a tractor-trailer hauling cattle managed to escape injuries after crashing into a guardrail on I-81, causing the truck to overturn Sunday.
This incident happened around 4:15 a.m. on the northbound lanes, NVDaily reports. Details from Virginia State Police show that the truck had drifted off the left side of the highway prior to the collision.
Due to the significant nature of this crash, Virginia Department of Transportation crews had to close the north and southbound directions for the scene clearance and investigation process, leading to heavy delays that lasted for several hours. Amid these closures, VDOT crews and other first responders redirected commuters to the 291 mile marker exit at Tom Brooks.
All directions were finally reopened sometime in the afternoon.
No additional details, which includes the reason behind why the driver lost control of the truck, has been reported.
