Pickup, 18-wheeler catch fire in deadly rear-end crash in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A woman operating a pickup truck rear-ended an 18-wheeler, causing her truck and the big truck’s trailer to catch fire, leading to her death Monday.

After the woman’s truck collided with the semi-trailer on I-35 near O’Connor Road, her truck got pinned underneath and quickly caught on fire, CBS Austin reports. The woman was unable to escape her fiery vehicle and perished at the collision site, while the cab from the semi disconnected, giving the semi-driver a chance to get out of the truck quickly and sustaining no injuries in the process.

It took fire crews around an hour to put out the fire. Authorities confirmed that all firefighters at the scene were unharmed in their pursuit of fire mitigation.

First responders have not shared additional details concerning this deadly wreck, which includes the woman’s name.
