HCSO deputy killed in pickup, semi jackknifed crash in Thonotosassa

THONOTOSASSA, FL – A driver of a Ford 150, a Hillsborough County deputy, lost his life after colliding with a flatbed semi-truck, which caused the truck to jackknife Thursday.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff”s Office told WFLA that prior to the collision, the deputy, 40-year-old Darell Brown, was coming from his job at the Orient Road Jail when he cut off the semi-truck. The driver of the semi-truck tried to press on their brakes but ended up jackknifing, which caused major damage to the front of the truck’s bumper.

After the vehicles collided, Brown’s pickup truck came to rest 100 feet from the big rig, and Brown perished at the site, while the semi-driver (who remained at the scene) was able to escape injuries.

Deputies and crews did shut down both directions for the standard scene clearance and investigation process before later reopening it.
