JEFFERSON CO., FL – A woman was killed and her passenger was injured when she collided with a semi-truck on U.S.-98 southeast of Tallahassee late last week.
According to WTXL, the fatal crash occurred near the intersection with FL-59 at about 1:25 a.m. on Friday, July 14. A 66-year-old Panama City woman lost control of her westbound Honda SUV, entering the oncoming lanes ahead of an approaching semi-truck. The truck’s driver attempted to avoid a collision but was unable to, instead clipping the SUV’s bumper and sending it pinwheeling clockwise before overturning along the north shoulder.
The impact briefly sent the semi-truck into the westbound lanes before its driver corrected and brought the vehicle to a stop facing on the north shoulder facing north.
The woman driving the SUV was killed in the crash. Her 36-year-old male passenger was rushed to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare with critical injuries.
The 27-year-old Tallahassee man driving the truck was unhurt.
US-98 was closed for an unspecified amount of time before reopening later that morning.
