Buda first responders close I-35 due to tractor-trailer fire

BUDA, TX – Buda Police, firefighters, and hazmat crews issued lane closures on I-35 South for several hours last Thursday due to a tractor-trailer fire that happened before 3:45 p.m.

While the details behind the fire remain scarce, first responders indicated that it could have happened after the 18-wheeler collided with a heavy tow truck. The fire that did result from this incident was extinguished around 3:54 p.m.

Due to the nature of this wreck, officials started shutting down the most southbound lanes (leaving one open) by 3:31 p.m. During these closures, first responders continued asking drivers to seek alternative routes and diverting traffic.

By 6:52 p.m., crews opened two lanes, and traffic started proceeding even as crews continued to work diligently to remove debris and hazardous materials.

All lanes finally reopened around 1 a.m. after crews conducted a hazmat cleanup.

First responders have made no mention of any injuries or hospitalizations nor confirmed the circumstances behind last Thursday’s incident.
