MONROE COUNTY, GA – A rollover semi-truck wreck Thursday morning in northwest Forsyth claimed the life of a passenger, reports 13WMAZ.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal accident unfolded on southbound Interstate 75 before Exit 193 to Johnstonville Road. It was first reported by the Georgia Department of Transportation at around 9:30 a.m.
For reasons under investigation, the semi-truck was traveling southbound on the highway when it struck the guardrail and overturned onto its passenger’s side, killing the victim.
The driver, who sustained unspecified injuries, was transported to an area hospital.
Crews had both southbound lanes shut down following the incident, which created a traffic backup stretching 15 miles down to Bill Gardner Parkway (Exit 212) in Locust Grove.
It’s unclear at this time whether any charges are expected to be filed against the driver. The MCSO continues to investigate.
