GAINESVILLE, FL – A semi-truck driver was trapped, extricated, and then sent to a hospital after colliding with some trees along I-75 Thursday.
WCJB said the events leading up to this crash unfolded around 11 a.m., when a tire from a Honda came off, causing the Honda driver to swerve off his lane and come to close proximity with the semi-truck. The semi-truck driver tried to avoid hitting that car but instead went off the road, prompting contact with the several trees.
Photos showed a completely mangled blue truck cab. Due to the nature of this wreck and the driver’s entrapment, fire crews had to extricate the semi-driver using the “Jaws of Life” approach.
After firefighters freed the truck driver, a medical helicopter transported him to a hospital, where he was set to receive treatment for non-life-threatening wounds.
First responders confirmed the Honda motorist was unharmed.
Fire crews also revealed that they closed a southbound lane on the right side so that crews could clean the fuel spill.
