Tractor-trailer, car crash in Macon kills 1, injures 2

MACON, GA – When a Swift transportation tractor-trailer collided with a maroon Acura MDX, it claimed the life of the car driver and injured the truck driver and 9-year-old child Sunday.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office did not tell 13WMAZ who was at fault or specify the events leading up to this wreck but did say it happened after 7 p.m. in the area of Old Cabiness Road and Georgia 83.

Upon arrival, authorities declared the car driver — Jeffery Mathis, a Dooly County resident — deceased at the scene. First responders then transported the truck driver, an unidentified Macon resident, to a hospital via an ambulance. Emergency crews airlifted the 9-year-old child to a hospital.

At this time, officials have not provided an update on the physical conditions of the two injured parties.
