Pickens County crash involving tractor-trailer, pickup truck claims life of elderly pedestrian

PICKENS COUNTY, GA — Georgia State Patrol officials responded to a pedestrian crash last Friday morning, March 15, involving a semi-truck that claimed the life of an 84-year-old Mableton man, reports WSB-TV 2.

The fatal incident occurred on a stretch of GA-5 just south of GA-108, shortly before 5:00 a.m.

While officials have not shared with the public what led up to the event, both a semi-truck and a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck were found to have struck the man, who was dressed in all-black as he crossed the southbound highway on foot. He is believed to have walked into the direct path of a Freightliner before being hit in the southbound lane.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, who was traveling behind the semi, attempted to switch from the right southbound lane into the left southbound lane to avoid a collision with the semi, which was braking. Despite this attempt, the Tacoma’s undercarriage collided with the victim as it made the lane change.

First responders pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.
