CLAY COUNTY, FL — A fiery crash between a pickup truck and a cement truck in Jacksonville early Wednesday left a 29-year-old man critically injured, according to News4Jax.
The accident happened on a stretch of I-295 just south of Pulaski Road, shortly after 1:30 a.m.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the victim was driving a Chevy pickup truck in the right southbound lane, behind the cement truck, when it rear-ended the vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the roadway and overturn into the nearby wood line. At least one truck caught fire as a result.
First responders rushed the driver of the pickup to an area hospital with critical injuries. No other information about his condition has been disclosed at this time.
The driver of the cement truck, 43, sustained only minor injuries.
Officials said it’s unclear whether the pickup driver was wearing a seatbelt, but the cement truck driver was determined to have been seat-belted at the time of the crash.
