JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — One person was airlifted to a hospital Thursday afternoon after a fiery dump truck wreck near northeast Birmingham that also downed a number of area utility lines, reports AL.com.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the accident took place at Carson Road and Elfrith Johnson Road at about 2:07 p.m. Deputies and Center Point fire crews responded to the scene shortly after.
While the driver of the truck was flown to UAB Hospital in critical condition, officials said he was alert and communicating with first responders at the time of transport.
The crash, which downed utility lines, impacted power, phone and internet connections in the area. The extent of the outage was not immediately apparent, but the utilities were expected to remain down for up to eight hours.
